Eskandar Firouz is recognized as the father of environmental protection and conservation in Iran.

His memoirs begin with his early life in Tehran, and how he was sent abroad as a young child to further his education, first in Germany, then in the United States at the Lawrenceville Preparatory School and later at Yale University. Upon returning to Iran, he writes of how his love of the sport of hunting led him to a lifelong interest and affection for his country s geographical diversity. Iran has vast deserts, pristine forests, and singular wetlands. Having observed the uncontrolled depletion of the country s natural resources and wildlife, made him recognize the critical need for environmental conservation.

His efforts, in 1971, led to the creation of the Iranian Department of the Environment, and the passing of the Environmental Protection Law. Serving as the department s director and as a deputy to the prime minister, he helped create Iran s wildlife refuges, national parks, and botanical gardens. He was the originator of the internationally renowned Pardisan project, an ecological initiative that included zoological parks, natural history museums, and aquariums. He also served as vice president of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, and was a participant at the United Nations meetings dealing with environmental issues, including the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

The accounts of his exploration of the wildlife of Iran, Central Asia and Africa will hold the reader s attention.

This is his fourth book. In 2000, The Fauna of Iran, was honored as book of the year by the Association of Iranian Publishers.

Outstanding read

If you like to find out about the conservation movement in Iran, you must read this book. Firouz, as the father of this movement talks frankly and extensively about his efforts in putting together the department of the environment and the hurtles he encounters along the way.

I am so gratefull he finally agreed to write his memoires so that the new generation can read and be thankfull to his efforts.

What he did in this book was amazing.... Firouz's journey of his life and how he helped Iran and its environment is great for the future generation. There are lessons to learn and his fair attitude in the book towards others who did something for our environment was great..

About the Author

John J. Murphy is a former technical analyst for CNBC and has over forty years of market experience. He is senior writer for StockCharts.com, a website that specializes in financial charts and technical analysis education. Murphy has appeared on Bloomberg TV, CNN, Fox, and the Nightly Business Report, and has been widely quoted in several other media outlets. In 1992, he was given the first award for outstanding contribution to global technical analysis by the International Federation of Technical Analysts, and is a recipient of the Market Technicians Association Annual Award. In addition to two previous books on intermarket analysis, he also authored two editions of The Visual Investor, all of which are published by Wiley. He also authored Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets. Murphy has a bachelor of arts in economics and a master of business administration from Fordham University.

I leared a lot

The author takes you through all of the major intermarket trends mainly through charts. One thing I really liked is that the charts were usually on the same page or opposite the text, making it easy to see what you were reading. The charts were also in color which also added greatly to see what was going on. I thought John Murphy did a great job explaining all of the intermarket relationships. I certainly learned a lot from this book which will be very helpful to me in the future. It will help with identifying long term trends in the various markets which is great if you are concerned about your 401K. The book could have been made better by explaining in more detail why some of the relationships exist i.e. why the Dollar Index affects bond prices, etc. Other than that the book does what it says it will. BTY - this review is in reference to the printed version, not the Kindle. I personally don't like to read trading books on Kindle due to difficulty in reading graphs/charts on Kindle.

I am a professional investment manager and an advisor to other money managers. I read financial books non-stop. At this point in my career my only goal is to find one good idea in any new book that I read. I can judge a book by how much highlighting I have in the book when finished reading. I usually highlight one line and then throw the book away. John Murphy's new book has at least 50% of the text highlighted. I've read both of his past intermarket analysis books and they were okay, but this new book is one of the most important books on investing that I've come across. I do not know John Murphy. My advice is to buy this book.

A Visual Guide to Market History

This is an introductory book on the stock and commodity markets that is heavily illustrated with quality charts. It discusses historical price trends and reversals in the context of world events. Each chart shows price history for one or more markets or indices. Major sections of the book are titled The Old Normal, The 2000 and 2007 Tops, The Business Cycle and ETFs, The New Normal and a Conclusion: It's All About Relationships.

What I expected before purchasing this product was a discussion of intermarket relationships from a quantitative perspective that would contribute to my competitive edge as a trader. What I found is a book that is entirely subjective in nature, that presents little in the way of new information outside of an analysis of price history in light of historical events. That is not particularly bad, but leaves the reader without any sense of how to use the information in trading. Systematic (computerized) traders have been using intermarket analysis for decades. Commercial vendors sell credible trading advice based on intermarket analysis. Due to its broad-brush, subjective nature, it is unlikely that anyone reading this book will gain an edge in trading from the information presented.

The book is educational. First and foremost it is a valuable survey of historical events that strongly affected price in a wide variety of world markets for equities, commodity futures and currencies. Next, it visually presents the nature of intermarket relationships. The key takeaway is that those relationships change over time. Sometimes commodities and the US Dollar diverge, sometimes they run in parallel. Usually they diverge, but not always. Is that a tradeable relationship? How might one quantify that? Apparently in an effort to keep this book as simple and understandable as possible, quantitative relationships are largely (entirely) ignored. This is disappointing. As a result, I only recommend this rather expensive book to students of the market and collectors. Do not expect to learn much that will improve your trading or investing results.

I rate this book three stars: it's ok. // Update: downgrade to two stars after thinking about this for several months. It is really rather worthless.

About the Author
Gail Johnson is a professional development advisor at the Royal College of Midwives (RCM). She is also responsible for the delivery of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities for midwives across the UK. As part of this role Gail has designed and delivered a number of successful large conferences for midwives, including the RCM Legal birth conference and the Bereavement conference. The model for these events has been rolled out across the UK.

Gail is also the project lead on the RCM e-learning initiative. The success of the online learning has resulted in a need to move to a different content management system, a process involving editing and translation of the original content to the new system whilst maintaining new content to ensure that members continued to get an excellent service. The new platform was launched at the International Confederation of Midwives conference in June 2014.

In addition Gail has worked with the RCM's Chief Executive Professor Cathy Warwick in advising the NHS Leadership Academy on leadership challenges for midwives and nurses, attending a number of development meetings.

Her leadership work has enabled her to work closely with senior midwives and local supervisory midwifery officers (LSAMO) to gain a greater understanding of the challenges of midwifery practice and the needs of service.

She also provides advice and consultancy to a number of external agencies both at national and international level on issues which impact on the wider health or public health issues. For examples she is the designated lead on stillbirth and bereavement care and work with the Department of Health (England) and Sands (UK) on the role of maternity services in reducing stillbirth and improving bereavement care.

She works closely with NSPCC on public health messaging and improving safety and outcomes for children and young people.

Prior to working at the Royal College of Midwives she worked for seven years in midwifery education as a senior lecturer in Cambridge.

In supporting midwives and representing the midwifery profession Gail is frequently asked to speak to the press and media on midwifery, maternity and women's health issues. She may be required to write press releases or comment to TV and radio on topical issues.

one of the best keyboard instructionals I've bought, can I give it a 6?

I think Jeff K.'s review is entirely correct. There are a multitude of usable examples of runs and progressions. I really enjoy using the cd with Digital Preformer - I'll load up an example, loop it and play over it until I have the timing right.
After using Levine's Jazz Piano Book (if you don't own this book you should) for five years Gail Johnson has helped me change up my voicings and rhythm - even helping me modernize (if you can consider 70's and 80's funk modern) my personal sound.

If you like Bob James, Deodato, George Duke, etc. this book will get you a little closer to what you are looking for.

I'm not a bass player, but Josquin des Pres wrote an OUTRAGEOUS book on classic funk and r&b grooves for bass. I load some of his audio into my sequnecer and try to incorporate some of Gail's ideas. It's really good practice and infinately more interesting than most of my workouts.

There's a book by Peter Gelling that has a similar title that is no where near as good as this one.

For a fourth of the price of one piano lesson you will learn a lot.

Hooray For Gail Johnson!

I love this book. Gail Johnson has taken me from loving this style of music to being able to actually play it. She's just done a fantastic job of introducing and teaching funk keyboards.

The book comes with a companion CD, which is very useful, as the notation is fairly complex, and I find it quite helpful to also hear the parts and play along with them. After a few repeats of each exercise, the recorded keyboard drops out, and if you're playing along and there's no apparent transition, you know you've nailed it.

I will spend weeks digesting this, getting facile with it, learning it in various keys, and integrating it into my playing. The cost is miniscule compared to the value.

If you love funk keyboards but haven't been able to work out how to play them just by listening or you don't know someone who can show you this stuff, this book is for you. I just wish I had had it 20 years ago.

The only change I would request is for her to add extra audio tracks of the complete songs that go at maybe half speed. It's taking me quite a while even to learn a couple measures of the best stuff and bring it up to full speed. I'd like to be able to play along sooner, at a more manageable speed.

This book is filled with thoughts to think about after reading even just a couple of poems. Even if you are not into poetry you will enjoy short and sometimes long poems from all different age's and walk's of life. These poems are uplifting!

George S. Cuhaj has served the Krause Publications numismatic staff for 20 years. Before becoming an editor with the Standard Catalog of World Coin series he worked for the American Numismatic Society and as a cataloger for Stack's Rare Coins, both of New York City. Cuhaj is past president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association and his art medal creations have been show internationally.

Thomas Michael has served as a market analyst for 25 years at Krause Publications, which holds a reputation for creating the world's best-selling coin books. Michael holds a bachelor's of arts degree in history and a mast of arts degree in economics.

If you have 2015 edition (or 2014!) just don't waste your money

I had a bad premonition when I opened the volume. On the first page of the catalogue the only change is a larger map of Afghanistan. Everything else is the same. Not a trace of new circulating magnetic 10 leke (2009) and 20 leke (2012) coins even though 2012 commemoratives have been added. Algeria? Commemorative 200 dinars 2012 missing. Andorra? Up to 2013, not a trace of 2014 euro issue. Aruba? No 2014 new circulating coins with the new king. Azerbaijan listing includes all coins issued up to 2006. Brazil starts with a gold 10 reis (actually, it should be reais), lower denominations follow. Guatemala misses some 2010 coins. Kazakhstan ends in 2011. Lithuania does not include 25 litu denomination. Norway ends in 2012. Pakistan 25 paisa is actuallly 25 rupees. As if to balance missing coins the editors generously threw in some coins not heard of anywhere else such as Morocco 5 santimat 2011 or Morocco 25 centimes (???) 2002. Some coins are listed twice e.g. Iran #1276 (or #1278) and 1277 (or #1279). Some prices are out of touch with reality (Monaco 2 euro #195 2011 and #200 2013 are available at 10% of current Krause prices, not a surprise as the mintages exceed one milion of each). I won't bore you with further examples but it seems to me that there is something wrong in the listings of every country.
Some years ago I realised that Krause is in trouble when the 20th century edition I bought was printed without several chapters (including such a minor country as Spain...) which I later received by e-mail. It has only gotten worse. This catalogue is simply not ready for publication, information which can be easily obtained on the Internet is missing. The information can probably be also obtained directly from mints or banks - why wasn't it? Wasn't there enough people in the publishing house to write the necessary e-mails? I can't tell.
What I can do is this: give you a piece of advice. If you already have 2014 or 2015 edition, don't bother buying the 2016 one. It is not worth the price. However, if you collect world coins and you haven't got a catalogue yet, there is no better one on the market. I am very sad to admit it - with Krause lowering its standards the world have just gotten a little worse. My advice to the editors is this - don't publish another edition until you are certain you are ready!

Good night , the catalog really has many flaws in the press there are parts that are not read , they are stained the page , the prices of currencies do not match the columns where they should go , you have blank pages in order is defective this issue, really I've never done them a claim but this time I think I should refund my money to my credit card , catalog price plus freight to pay for it to arrive faster, or in the worst case reintegr�rmelo with a gift card to buy another article in this decision is you . regards2016 Standard Catalog of World Coins 2001-Date

He has over 30 years of experience at Hughes Research Labs, Chevron Research Co, and the Boeing High Technology Center working with advanced semiconductor devices.

Dr. Fraas joined JX Crystals in 1993, where he has led the development of advanced solar cells and concentrated sunlight systems. At JX Crystals, he pioneered the development of various thermophotovoltaic (TPV) systems based on the new GaSb infrared sensitive PV cell.� In 1978 while at Hughes Research Labs, he published a pioneering paper proposing the InGaP/GaInAs/Ge triple junction solar cell predicting a cell terrestrial conversion efficiency of 40% at 300 suns concentration.� This 40% efficiency has now been achieved and this cell is the predominant cell today for space satellites.� It is now entering high volume production for terrestrial Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) systems.��

Dr Fraas holds degrees from Caltech (B.Sc. Physics), Harvard (M. A. Applied Physics), and USC (Ph.D. EE).� At Caltech, he studied Physics with Prof. Richard P. Feynman.� Dr. Fraas has written over 350 technical papers, over 60 patents, and a book entitled Path to Affordable Solar Electric Power & The 35% Efficient Solar Cell (2005).� He is co-editor and co-author of a Wiley book entitled Solar Cells and Their Applications (2nd Edition) published in 2010.�

This delightful book is a "treasure chest" filled with jewels from the author's lifetime of experience and visionary scientific work within the solar energy field.
Solar electric cell development history is high-lighted in Chapters 1-6, giving the reader an over-view on how the various solar electric technologies evolved to the present day.
In Chapter 7 there is a focus on concentrating photovoltaic devices, and direct solar lighting. On page 88 there is a diamond in the "treasure chest" not to be missed: a 'sneak preview" into the future possibilites solar technology can provide using orbiting solar mirrors in Space that can light the night-time side of Earth. This concept is further developed in Chapter 12.
In Chapter 8 the story of the 40% efficient multi-junction solar electric cell evolutution, an emerald in the "treasure chest", is as well documented as any review I have seen, by one of the technologies key participants.
The author, Lew Fraas writes from the prespective of a real-life experimentalist, Material Scientist, and theoretician. Having had the opportunity to work with him in the 1979-1983 time frame, I can say from experience that he has a fantastic ability to find his way in solving problems and making things work in the lab [pages 100-104 describe some of those activities]. In Chapter 10 and 11 Infra-red solar electric concentrator cells, also known as thermo-photovoltaic cells [TPV] are the rubies in the "treasure chest".
