Captivating!

I had the privilege of being one of the first to read, The Secret Collector. As a busy person I tend to leave my fiction reading for bedtime. I haven't had a book that called me to hurry to bed to read for quite sometime but, Linda Bray's book was such a book. The story line captivated my attention and pulled me right into the story as if I were also one of the characters in this tale.
I highly recommend this book with one caution: you will miss the characters when you are finished with the book and waiting for the next in the Parkridge Series. Personally, I can't wait to read the next in the series!

In the beginning I had no idea where this book was going to take me, I was surprised and happy to find myself back with little Linda through all her adventures. I had forgotten how pure and fresh a young mind can be. I think the author went there with clarity and freshness of a young girl. I do want to follow Linda through puberty, adulthood and beyond. Good clean fun read.

I think a lot of people can relate to the child in the main character. It's well-written in sentence structure, colorful dialogue, and not rambling... Also the plot leads the reader to wonder what's going to happen next. Good life lessons in relationships and human nature. Refreshing.

Do not buy this book!

This book only gives you simple answers of ODD NUMBER EXERCISES! NO EXPLAINATIONS! Odd number answers are already printed in the back of the text book. If you want the answers to the even number problemes and some (not all) explainations to the exercises. You need the "Instrictor Solutions Manual", which they don't have.

Don't waste your money

As the previous reviewer stated, this solutions manual only contains the answers for the odd-numbered questions, which are already given in an appendix in the back of the textbook. It does not go through the problem step-by-step or give additional useful information beyond what is in the back of the text. I advised all of my fellow students to take it back if they bought it from the campus bookstore (I bought mine used online, so I didn't have that option).

Came in condition described in good time. The book itself shows only odd solutions and sometimes doesn't show any steps, but it's been helpful in Calc 1 and Calc 2 so far. It's not as good as it could be, but it gets the job done.

This book is an excellent resource if you're studying for the SBB exam. Along with the AABB technical manual, you have a wealth of knowledge and experience covering every topic with easy to read detail.

Comprehensive, precise covering from basics to applications, and from both theoretical and modern technical view point. Frequest figures and tables help me understand each topic a lot. I also like review questions and case studies at the end of each chapter. This book is a book I always reach for my immunohaematology studies at university.

Gregory Moody is the founder of Gospel-Chords.com. He has over 30 years of experience in the music field. Having studied diligently under those taught by some of the great jazz masters, and being greatly influenced by them, Greg was inspired to create the "Adventures in Harmony Series". His unique harmony and composition styles are the foundation that lead to the development of this unique program. Greg also has a degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University. Combining his knowledge and passion of both music and computers, he utilized both extensively to analyze chords, voicings relationships and to discover harmonies that only a few may have stumbled upon. As a term of endearment his friends, family and colleagues have bestowed upon him the title of "King of Harmony".

Wonderful start to brave new world

I bought this book to broaden my musical horizons. I am a keyboard player and I mostly write my own jazz compositions or improvise on standards. Being self-taught I've struggled to master the sometimes incomprehensible language of advanced chords. This book helped very much. This book is light on theory and heavy on application. I applied the technique to some of the my work and it immediately became richer.

I would give this a five star review except for one thing: the two examples are in major keys. Given the wide variety of music in minor keys one is left unsure how to approach minor keys. Their website gospel-chords.com has a malfunctioning 'ask a question' feature and their facebook page is mainly advertising.

Very clear explanation of a very complex subject

This book did just what I had hoped it would do. It took a very complex subject and explained it in as simple terms as possible. I've never had a formal course in biology, but I had watched all the lectures in an MIT Open Courseware course on the subject that had left me confused about a number of things. Of course, this book is not as comprehensive as a full course, but it did clarify a number of things for me. Many of the illustrations are much better than in the textbook that the MIT course was based on. Near the end of the book the author began giving specific study tips -- what things a student needs to be familiar with and what things they need to have down cold. In fact, the last chapter is entitled "Ten Ways to Improve Your Grade." I thought this a little strange, because the introduction does not mention this aspect of the book. It is done unobtrusively, so it shouldn't lessen a non-student's enjoyment of the book. I mention it because it might be a big plus to some prospective readers.

Saving my bu...er...life

I'm taking a graduate level environmental biology class this summer even though I knew I was a bit short on the prerequisites. I didn't try to convince anyone that the prerequisites were unnecessary, just that I was willing to do whatever was necessary to fill in the gaps. Still, it's been 20 years since I was last a student, and 30 since I'd taken a biology class, so I definitely needed help. I bought a copy of Molecular Cell Biology (Lodish, Molecular Cell Biology) to fill in the molecular biology gaps and then I bought this so I could understand Lodish.

So far the combination works quite well. I find that if read this great little book by Dr. Kratz first, I can master a chapter of Lodish in a couple of hours. Without it...well, I'd figure it out but it would take much longer.

Dr. Kratz nicely explains the basic functions of cells and their structures, then devotes a chapter to the chemistry that is especially relevant to cell biology, covalent and ionic bonding, redox reactions, pH and polymers. Subsequent chapters cover carbohydrate, protein, DNA and RNA, and lipid synthesis. Cellular communication, metabolism, respiration, and photosynthesis are nicely briefed. I have not read the remaining chapters yet, but they appear to be equally well prepared.

It certainly will not replace your molecular biology textbook, but if you are feeling a bit behind on the background knowledge you need to be successful, I think this will fill the bill. Altogether, a nicely done book.

I think this book would be great for someone with a non-science background who wanted to understand molecular and cell biology in a simple way. I however bought the book to serve as a quick-read adjunct to college level cell and molecular courses, and the book is totally inadequate for this purpose. The book is far too simplistic and surface oriented to be a study guide to undergraduate cell and molecular biology classes.
