Code-centric? Error-centric is more like it!

I was excited when I got this book, but steadily more disappointed as I began to read it. After reading the first chapter or two, I started counting the coding errors and typing mistakes. I was up to 23 when I stopped. A lot of the code in this book simply won't run. What does is too simplistic to really be useful.

Borrows heavily from other books

Not very impressed with this book. Almost everything in it is from somewhere else. Also, many of the techniques recommended are quite dated. Many don't even apply to SS2K. In fact, SS2K coverage is all but missing from this book. On top of this, there are numerous errors and typos. So, you have an unoriginal SQL Server book that's loaded with errors, quite dated, and lacks coverage of the most recent release of the product - not worth your money in my opinion.

You have got to be kidding

This is quite easily the worst technical book I've ever even begun to read. "5000 lines" of source code? Only if you count gratuitous use of space-filling comments - in many examples there are more comments than code. Real-world code? Is "real-world" a synonym for "buggy"? Easily 25% of the code samples have bugs that will prevent them from running on any version of SQL Server.
And the worst part of it all is that the book is written so poorly. Mr. Wells should definitely keep his day job.

These buildings--known as follies--were monuments to vanity; often purely decorative, they could ostensibly function as a place to accommodate a romantic tryst or entertain guests with a musical performance. Superb architectural watercolors by the authors illustrate each folly, along with fine reproductions of original garden plans and of paintings and engravings of the period. Although many of these sites no longer exist, the book shows fantastical structures constructed on no more than a passing whim to possess an orangerie filled with tropical blooms or to emulate an Italian grotto with a monstrous head spewing a hellish deluge out its vast mouth. Garden Follies of Pre-Revolutionary France

Bernd H. Dams researched the architectural and garden history, and Andrew Zega produced the fifty watercolors illustrating the pavilions and follies of this book which accompanied a pair of exhibitions in New York City and Paris in the mid 1990s. Each chapter is devoted to folly in chronological order and also includes period engravings and paintings, original architectural plans, and portraits of the architects and patrons. Also, there is a Visitor's Guide which lists the 18 surviving, or partially surviving, follies both public and private, and when they can be visited. This is a book that is as informative as it is beautiful -- a must for all admirers of the decorative arts of the Ancien Regime.

Quin Sherrer has appeared on more than 250 radio and television programs, including The 700 Club and CBN's "Heart to Heart." Quin's desire is to teach women how to pray more effectively, which she teaches extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Quin and her husband, LeRoy, live in Colorado Springs. Quin and Ruthanne Garlock have co-authored eight books together. Ruthanne Garlock travels internationally teaching on the subject of prayer. Encouragement in Prayer

I've only just started Quin Sherrer's How To Pray for Your Children but I find it so encouraging. It's easy to stop praying when God doesn't give an instant answer. She reminds us that Satan will try to sabotage your relationship with the person you are praying for. How true.

About the Author
Lori E. Seward is an Instructor in the Decisions Sciences Department in the College of Business at The University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering at Virginia Tech. After several years working as a reliability and quality engineer in the paper and automotive industries, she earned her PhD from Virginia Tech.

David P. Doane is Professor of Quantitative Methods in Oakland University's Department of Decision and Information Sciences. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and economics at the University of Kansas and his PhD from Purdue University's Krannert Graduate School.

Excellent Statistics Book

I have made it to Chapter 5 this has been a great statistics book. There are a lot of graphics to explain concepts and great examples that help when solving practice problems. There also great examples of how these concepts apply to the real world.I would recommend this book to students who are taking statistics classes!

Good book, great story, but I wanted the script.

The book pictured in blue was not the book sent to me. I was disappointed because the other books with the same title are the story. Which is a wonderful story. But what I ordered was the blue book of the same title but it is written in "script" form to use for a play or theater application. It was very inexpensive and I didn't return or dispute it because I can always use another copy. But if the ad and the book were better identified or described I wouldn't have bought another story version, when I wanted the script instead.
I really think the picture in advertising was displayed incorrectly. I have recently ordered the blue version, which is the script format, and it came as advertised.
The script form is a wonderful application of the story to be used as a play or dramatic presentation. Very little you have to do to make it work for adults or children.
In the future, to anyone who reads this, be sure to ask if it is the story book form or script form. For some of you the story is what you want and it is indicated with a couple different types of pictures on the front of the book. The script form is as you see it, which is the blue cover and says (Script).

Looking for a Christmas Play - here's one for you!

This is an excellent play for a Christmas program. It has a large cast, so be prepared. However, all of the characters are wonderfully written, as well as the story. It is a comical approach to putting together a Christmas program, which I have done for several years.

If you are looking for a play to tell the Christmas story, and how all Christians need to work together despite our differences - I would highly recommend this production. Plus, it is very funny which is always a plus.

This is a PLAY - not the short story - and it's wonderful.

Most reviews seem to be focusing on something other than what this is - either they are complaining about delivery or were confused about what they were ordering.

This is the PLAY version of this story, adapted by Barbara Robinson herself. We just finished a production and it's wonderful. Great story, compactly told with nice narration. If you don't know the book - get it, read it, it's a great mix of fun and honestly with a touch of a tear-maker at the end. A good mix of what is in the book, but with an eye to theatricality. There are a couple transitions that were weird for us, since the play was adapted very surely with a proscenium stage in mind, which we don't have, so curtain fly-ins and in-one scenes were really not an option, BUT...those are issues we solved.

Straightforward and Light

I had to get this textbook for a distance education course at my university. The textbook content itself is not extraordinary, but it is relatively straightforward and not too difficult to understand, especially for anyone who has had a course in Statistics before. The best part of this textbook is how small and light it is. If all textbooks were this light, I would carry them everywhere.

This book makes a good course companion, but I would not suggest this as a textbook for someone who is looking to teach themselves Statistics. Without a background in basic Statistics or a professor to provide answers to questions, this book won't seem as simple.
