I love this book .Julia Cutter is running for her life after her parents forced her to go with Jasper a man who was so cruel to her and wanted her dead . Julia could feel her skin tear as she ran but she knew she could not stop no matter come what may.Julia prayed as she ran and then she heard the shot ring out.She was found by Mary and Lucille two older women who turned out to be sisters were also her saviors and nursed her back to health and then she worked for them and they gave her a safe place to live .Julia still feared for her life and wondered if she was putting Mary and Lucille in danger too .she worked hard around the ladies ranch to pay for her keep and began calling them her aunts.Then one day Along comes a very handsome man who is practically gutted .Julia ,Mary and Lucille worked trying to save his life.Julia wondered at the cruel way he was left to die if it could possibly be Jasper catching up with her .They bathed him and found out his name Grant Gentry and found he had been robbed and left for dead and three ranch hands were dead and his brother Linc is missing .Grant thinks he has to leave until he realizes the extent of his injuries,and that the blood loss has him so weak.The women let him know that the remains of the ranch hands were buried and there was no sign of his brother :Linc who was on the cattle drive with Grant was accused of murder before they left on the drive and Grant knows he is innocent and his other brother Emerson is the sheriff of Rutlers Ridge,can they find Linc and the men who left him for dead and can they prove Linc's innocence .Is the men who attacked Grant and his ranch hands and brother the same Jasper Smith who almost killed Julia and can Julia and Grants growing attraction survive after the way the last man in her life treated her ?Julia decides to go on the run when she believes Jasper has found her .Will she trust Grant and Emerson to keep her safe there is still a lot of story here people so get the book I am ready for book two in this series.I finished this book in one sitting I could not put it down .

WHAT A GREAT BEGINNING FOR A SERIES...

What a read!!! This could be a stand alone, but was an great lead in book. You, have a distant family an adopted family and so much more. Hildie, has done an amazing job again, bringing us into her world of storytelling. With just enough bread crumb trail leading us to the next books. Can't wait for the next!!! *I received a free copy for an honest review.

Grant Gentry is a rancher who wakes up, beaten and bruised, in the home of the Sullivan sisters and their "niece", Julia. They have been caring for him since he and his men were attacked and robbed returning home from a cattle drive. His men were all killed, his younger brother is missing and he was left for dead. He can't remember what happened or the faces of the men who attacked them, but in his dreams he relives the horror of that night as well as the dinstinct, raspy voice of one of their attackers.

Julia is a woman on the run from an abusive relationship. She finds safety in the home of the Sullivan sisters and is helping to care for Grant until he recovers enough to return to his ranch. She is constantly on the lookout for the man she ran away from and is ready to flee at a moment's notice. Grant finds himself wanting to court Julia but she is reluctant to become involved with him. He pursues her relentlessly until she agrees to allow him to court her but still will not agree to marriage.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this story is that Julia and Grant did not hold back the passion they had for each other. Sometimes, with historical pieces, the lead characters cannot give in to their passion because the woman would be considered "spoiled" and lose her place in society. That wasn't the case with Grant and Julia. Neither was worried about what people would say, although they were careful not to flaunt their affair in front of others. I also really liked that Grant quickly realized that Julia was hiding something and he didn't allow her to push him away. The more she resisted, the more he was determined to find out what she was hiding. He didn't try to convince her she needed a man to solve her problems. If anything, he admired her more for her strength.

This was a quick read but there was depth to the story. It also set up a future installment for Emerson, the oldest brother and sheriff. It also left me wondering what happened to Linc, the youngest brother. I would definitely read more about the Gentry's of Montana

Matt Forbeck, an award-winning and New York Times best-selling author and games designer, has been playing Dungeons & Dragons since he was thirteen. Great for the right audience - those who want to learn ABOUT D&D

First things first: this book doesn't contain a lot that you can't get through other D&D products. If you are looking for rules and stats and mechanics, this is not the place for you.

What this book does do is explain D&D and the Forgotten Realms. It isn't an in depth study, but rather an overview, presenting the imagination of the setting. This is a book to whet the appetite, to make you interested in the concepts and world of D&D. You'll be presented with:
- the concept of an adventuring party
- basic adventuring equipment
- how magic and magic items work in the Realms
- a very brief overview of the Sword Coast with a popup map that is really quite spectacular (the centerfold of the book)
- an entire section on rogues and traps
- a discussion of loot
- an overview of clerics
- a description of the Five Factions of the Realms
- an introduction to some of the unique monsters of D&D
- a spread on the current major villains in 5e
- an overview of some of the canonical heroes and legends from various D&D source material
- a breakout booklet guide to the Forgotten Realms, which includes a short snapshot on major cities, some of the published 5e adventures, established dungeons, and worlds beyond (Greyhawk, etc.)

The beautiful layout includes popup maps, little hidden pockets begging to be opened, and removable pieces that immediately invite you to explore and engage.

Your experience will vary depending on your prior knowledge and what you are after from the book, but if you approach it correctly, it can be a magical experience. I'd recommend this especially for those who don't have a D&D background but are interested in the setting, and possibly as a tool for DM's who play especially on the Sword Coast to introduce new players to the world.

This is a wonderful Children's Picture Book, NOT a game book!

I feel compelled to write a review, because Ive seen a few negative reviews for this excellent NON-GAMING book. This is not a Wizards of the Coast game publication; this is part of the 'ology' series that is made famous by previous books in the series. This book aims at introducing the world of Dungeons and Dragons to kids, NOT ADULTS WHO ARE OBSESSED WITH SPLAT BOOKS. If you are a gamer, a regular D&D player, please do not harsh on this, just move on to actual game books. This book is a visual cyclopedia aimed at children ages 7-10; and possibly to inspire them to want to know more about this wonderful game called D&D, "hey mommy, how do I play this game, this book is rad!" Okay, maybe nor 'rad' but definitely awesome.
So before you harsh with your lackluster wit, be sure to know what this book is, a children's book with lots of wonderful, brilliant, colorful pictures and notes. A wonderful addition to the 'ology' series of children's books.

The Answer to the question... What is Dungeons and Dragons?

This is first and foremost a fairly quick, entertaining, and interactive introduction into the world and characters (mostly) created by Ed Greenwood. You will learn very little in anything new or cutting edge, though there are a few Easter eggs and hints of upcoming additions to the Fifth Edition cannon, as well of plenty of insight into who Volo (the books fictitious narrator) is as a character. This book was written for people unfamiliar with Dungeons and Dragons role playing game or more specifically the Forgotten Realms setting. Encapsulating what is wondrous about role playing games without actually defying the laws of physics as we know it. Buy this book if you love Dungeon and Dragons lore, if you appreciate follow through, and are willing to read something you may already know but presented in an entertaining and refreshing way. Don't buy this book if you're looking for new mechanics to exploit, classes and races to min-max, or are slightly intimidated with playing with pop-up books, as you feel they insult your intelligence rather than touch on your inner curiosities... or still do buy it and read it so you can express your opinion with some validity as to why every D&D book should cater only to the likes of you and your kind.
